Jahney Smith founder of Club Shakas

Six years ago, I co-founded Club Shakas Communities, an Australian not-for-profit — because I believed every woman deserved a safe, fun, judgment-free way into surfing and to make friends. What started as a grass-roots community has now welcomed 1,000+ women into surfing across Australia.

Here's the thing — I'm a beginner surfer too. I built this because I couldn't find an experience that felt made for someone like me. So I made one.

I also brought something else to the table — years of hospitality experience working with A-list celebrities and royalty, where exceptional service and attention to detail weren't optional. That standard is baked into every Club Shakas retreat. From the accommodation we choose, to the food, the coaches, and every moment in between.

These aren’t just surf retreats. They are fully curated experiences — built from the inside out, by someone who gets exactly how you feel.
